BURD Programme Implementation Plan (2006-07)
 

• The BURD Programme for 2006-07 was implemented through 19 partner agencies, namely Community Science Centres (CSCs) or NGOs closely allied with school-level development programmes, as was done in 2004-05 and 2005-06.
   

• While 15 Agencies, who implemented the programme during 2005-06 have been continued as partner agencies as their performance was found to be satisfactory since 2004-05, about 5 additional agency has been enlisted for Rajkot, Surendranagar, Porbander, Panchmahals , Dahod and Dang districts to enable penetration of the programme and satisfactory enrolment in these regions (Refer Annex 1).
   

Programme Highlights & Outreach

• The focus in 2006-07 was on greater reach and qualitative presentation.
   

• The programme was extended directly to 1500 schools, 30, 000 children & 3000 teachers and indirectly through school awareness generation programmes and celebrations such as the Akshay Urja Divas (August 20th) and National Energy Conservation 9December 14th) to nearly 2 lakh children. (Refer Annex 1 for School targets).
   

• An additional 1500 Non–BURD member schools, 10,000 children were reached through 3 district level General Category Competitions: Poster Design, Elocution and Energy Quiz only for Non-BURD Members to inculcate their interest in the programme.
   

• In all the programme this year reached to 3000 schools and 40,000 children, 3000 Urja Agevan-s (School teachers) and 1000 Mitra-s (Community leaders and environmental activists).
   

• Interest in the programme was sustained through district and state level events such as the Urja Utsavs, Akshaya Urja and Urja Din Celebrations, BEE Painting Competitions for all schools in the state including CBSE Schools through the 19 partner agencies in all the districts of the state.
   

• Deeper understanding of energy, energy conservation & allied issues were encouraged through hands on projects for Urja Rakshaks such as home and school audits, neighborhood energy surveys and Urja Seva that are organized as Competitions among the 1500 BURD members Schools.
   

• Greater emphasis was given to capacity building of teachers and partner NGOs in the interest of greater commitment to energy conservation. 36 Teachers Training programmes were organized for 3000 teachers in 25 districts. The training was imparted through 12 energy audit consultants empanelled by GEDA for the energy audit activities.
   

• Special technical modules have been developed for the 50 Urja Agevan Training programmes scheduled during August - October 2006.
   

• A 3-day capacity building programme was conducted for the Urja Sanchalaks, the co-ordinators of the 19 partner NGOs in June 2006.

• 25 district Urja Utsavs were organized by the partner agencies and Competitions organized to select district winners.
   

• The state Urja Utsav was organized in Palitana (Bhavnagar District) from February 24-25, 2007. 2000 children participated in the programme and the state level competitions organized for BURdies and Primary Schools.
   

• The programme will target 3600 schools (Primary and Secondary) and 50, 000 children in 2007-08
