School going children - in urban, rural and tribal areas are considered as a "critical" target group by GEDA and accordingly several participatory educational packages and edu-taining activities are designed to effectively promote energy education with specific reference to renewable sources of energy and energy conservation. School teachers and Schools and Community Science Centres are considered a key link in reaching this impressionable target group. GEDA initiated its efforts in Energy Education with An IDEAS Workshop that involved professionals from design, development, education, literature and the arts to brain storm about approaches to Energy Education.
GEDA's efforts to promote renewable energy education that is both educational and entertaining have resulted in several innovative projects, some of which have been nationally and internationally acclaimed. Particularly interesting is the Renewable Energy Education Package for Tribal Children which draws on local fables, nature myths and folk tales to weave Energy Stories in a Tree Package titled "Ek Jhadni Kimmat Ketli"
GEDA's Energy Education projects and programmes include:
- Teacher Training Workshops to keep teachers abreast with latest developments in Energy Education - and introduce them to innovate approaches to renewable energy education, whether the focus is science, history, social studies, geography, language or arts and crafts.
- Preparation of Education support material through the production of Publications such as Readers, Teacher's Guides, Renewable Energy Stories, Films and Animated Cartoons, Games and Participatory Packages.
- Energy Camps and Renewable Energy Melas to enthuse school children's participation in activity based learning
- A small but comprehensive collection of Renewable Energy Resources available for reference at the GEDA
Renewable Energy Resource Centre
- Projects with Community Science Centres to design and develop Inter- active Learning Environments for Children.
