'Urja
Utsav' 2003
Energy Skills as Life Skills
Event for Childrens and School Teachers
The energy system of our earth is delicate and
carefully balanced to sustain all forms of life. We are now at the
cross roads. We can opt to destroy our planet or protect it. We can
squander our earth’s resources or make provisions for tomorrow. The
choice is entirely ours.
We have to make it TODAY.
In today's energy scenario our prime concern is to use energy from
non-renewable energy sources such as coal and petroleum judiciously,
maximize the use of renewable sources such as solar, wind and
biomass and make a conscious choice to conserve energy.
To achieve this, an important tool is awareness. We must be equipped
with knowledge and skills that can help us to make wise energy
choices. Energy skills must be cultivated as life skills.
School Energy Project experiences show that school students could
make a large difference in efforts towards energy conservation.
Involving schools students and youth would help in not only
conserving energy today, but would also help in developing a task
force aware and educated on energy conservation.
The proposed 'Urja Utsav' is an effort towards creating awareness on
conserving energy and popularizing sustainable, renewable and clean
energy options among school children and youth of Ahmedabad
district.
